National Retreat Centers and Organizations

Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA - IMS is a major center for Vipassana mediation on the east coast.  Retreats are held throughout the year. 

Spirit Rock Retreat Center in Woodacre, CA - Spirit Rock is an Insight Meditation center just north of San Francisco, providing "silent meditation retreats, as well as classes, trainings, and Dharma study opportunities for new and experienced students from diverse backgrounds with a willingness to develop their own practice."

Buddhist Insight Network - BIN is an organization for people and groups that feel a spiritual connection and identify their spiritual lineage with the founders of the Insight Meditation movement in the West.

Mid America Dharma - a non-profit organization dedicated to making the practice of vipassana or Insight Meditation available to others in the central region of the United States.

Access to Insight- Access to Insight includes a large collection of English translations from the Pali canon, one of the first recorded collections of the Buddha’s teachings.

Buddhist Glossary - Provided by Buddha Net, this glossary includes definitions of a wide range of Pali and Sanskrit terms used in Buddhist study.

Buddhist Lists - Provided by Insight Meditation South Bay, this site provides summaries of many of the lists used by the Buddha in his teachings.  Each list is described in a separate document adding background that explains the background and function of each list.
